| Q. | How many web sites (or URLs) can I check at once? |
| A. | WebCheck can theoretically check up to 32,000 URLs per second. However, your computer and internet connection is probably not equipt to handle this many tests that often. We recommend for a standard modem connection on a standard pentium machine, checking no more than 60 URLs per minute. |
| Q. | How often can I check a URL? |
| A. | You can check a URL as often as once every second. However, your web server's performance may degrade if you do it this often. From our experience most site administrators are happy knowing about problems within one minute after they occur. |
| Q. | If the website goes down, will I be bombarded with WebCheck notifications? |
| A. | No, WebCheck only sends one email when a problem occurrs and one more when the problem is resolved. |
| Q. | Can WebCheck tell me when my website is working again? |
| A. | Yes, WebCheck will notify you as soon as your website starts functioning again. |
| Q. | What if I'm away from my computer? |
| A. | You can configure WebCheck to page you when your site is down or send email to other people responsible for maintaining your site. WebCheck only needs an internet connection to run so as long as your computer is on and you are connected to the internet, WebCheck will function as normal. Never will a message appear that causes WebCheck to require user input in order to continue. |
| Q. | What email client or server do I need for email notification to work? |
| A. | WebCheck works all SMTP servers and does not require that you have an email client setup on your machine. |
| Q. | What web servers are supported? |
| A. | WebCheck runs on your local machine and does not discriminate against different types of servers. Therefore, WebCheck works with all web servers and all server operating systems. |
| Q. | What types of web pages can I monitor? |
| A. | WebCheck works with all types of web pages including (asp, htm, cfm, exe, dll, js, jsp,... etc.). You can also submit data to the server through the URL if you are running server-side scripts. Such as: http://www.mySite.com/order.asp?OrderID=1234 |
| Q. | Does WebCheck need to be installed on my web server? |
| A. | Although you can install WebCheck on your web server, it doesn't have to be. In fact, it might be better to check it from another machine just in case a problem occurs on the server that is so serious that it prevents WebCheck from notifying you. |
| Q. | What operating system do I need to have in order to run WebCheck? |
| A. | WebCheck has to be run from a Windows machine. Windows 95, 98, 98 SE, NT 4.0, and 2000 are all supported. |
| Q. | Can I create log files with a record of my down-time? |
| A. | Yes. WebCheck will create log files with a new record everytime your website goes down or back up. Times and problem details are recorded so you can review them or use them as proof of the problem. |
| Q. | Can I monitor other web sites? |
| A. | Yes. If your site relies on another website or you just want to know if your local internet connection is up, you can always add checks for any other URLs you want. |
